#FacesOfToM – Lourdes

23 January 2021

January is coming to an end. We are trying our best to stay true to our New Year’s resolution: a transparent Taste of Malawi. Our motivation, motives, our individual stories and much more will be presented to you here. The #FacesOfToM introduction series is hosted by Rita.

Welcome Lourdes!

For our second interview we got to meet another new member: Lourdes. She is a new member of the website team and works with Maike, who you already met in the first blog post. She also has been part of ToM for three months.

Why did Lourdes want to be a part of ToM?

In the beginning of January 2021, Lourdes changed roles at her current company. She left a more technical job for one that deals with research and development, with a focus on the assessment of product conformity. She talks about product design with passion, and she hopes to utilise her expertise in connection with Taste of Malawi as well.

When asked the decisive factor for joining the project, Lourdes answered “definitely the empowerment of women in combination with the opportunity to get involved.” She brings a lot of energy with her and she’s planning to bring it into the area she is passionate about: design.

Apart from work – what interests do you have?

When Lourdes isn’t exploring design, she likes to spend time with others – currently online, of course. After the interview, she went straight to her German course. During the conversation, we both learned many random words in German, English, and Spanish. It’s great to see ToM members teaching each other! For example: “Puedo ayudarte” means “I can help you”.

Lourdes is also passionate about “deportes” (sports), especially running and working out in the gym. Playing sports or going for a walk gives her the opportunity to let go and find a balance for herself. She likes to take the opportunity to move “al aire libre” (in the fresh air) and just take a deep breath.

Lourdes likes having natural elements in her home. Especially through the last nine months, she has learned to appreciate the joys of making furniture or other smaller things herself. Not only does she find this activity to be relaxing, but it is also very important for Lourdes to try to live sustainably.

We are so excited to have another #FacesOfToM interview soon. Are you curious yet? We sure are! If you have any questions for the off-site team, we are always happy to include them in the interviews. Just drop us a line on our social media.

See you soon!
