22 May 2021
It’s Saturday, two weeks later, and that means it’s interview time again. Today you’ll get the chance to meet two members who have been with us since 2020. Audrey and Richard make up the Accounting Team. They are excited to share their perspectives, motivations and more below.
The Accounting team consists of two members and is currently looking for additional support. Budget controls, the analysis of finances as well as the cooperation with the tax consultancy are central tasks of the accounting team.
Audrey became aware of ToM last year. She saw one of our videos on YouTube in her recommendations bar that spoke to her, and then she directly reached out to us. Five years ago she has already been on the ground in Malawi through the organization buildOn. Her host mother inspired her during her stay in 2016, and she finds it energizing which role her own self-reliance takes.
Since the end of 2019, alongside Audrey, Richard enriches the Accounting team and is currently Head of this team. A fundraising campaign on betterplace brought Richard’s attention to ToM and this appealed to him as well as moved him to maintain the Accounting team through his decision to join the team.
The Accounting team is based in Germany and the USA, but the place of reference is in Malawi. Audrey and Richard both share the idea that they can make a contribution through the theoretical knowledge they have acquired through their studies.
Accounting is more than just juggling numbers. By joining, for example, Richard has made a contribution to the fact that the structure of the recording of costs and documentation can be adjusted and thus run more efficiently. In addition to the annual financial report, there are other exciting tasks that are carried out by accounting. So accounting not only looks back at finances but also looks ahead and analyzes the data to make forecasts. What is special is that Team Accounting has a particularly close connection to our on-site team in Malawi.
A: I can get involved and have the opportunity to work closely with the women in Malawi.
R: I think it’s important to get involved. Thanks to ToM, I am well-connected, and I notice that my ideas are changing something.
We are so excited to have another #FacesOfToM interview soon. Are you curious about who’s next? We sure are! If you have any questions for the off- site team, we are always happy to include them in the interviews. Just drop us a line on our social media. Pay attention in two weeks there will be something special on this blog. See you soon!
