Dear Taste of Malawi friends,
every year on the Tuesday after Black Friday, organizations around the world celebrate Giving Tuesday. This campaign was started to counteract the buying mania of Black Friday and to draw attention to the many valuable and necessary projects of organizations in all areas. The motto is : instead of spending money on yourself, donate it to organizations.
In this blog post we would liketo talk about the process behind campaign and give you a little “behind the scenes”.
Giving Tuesday is one of our biggest fundraising campaigns every year, so it’s very important to be able to cover the continuous costs of the project. This year our appeal for donations is connected to a particularly beautiful message. The project in Malawi is growing continuously and in order to enable more women to learn a useful trade and also to achieve financial independence, we need 10 new sewing machines, worth 2.000€.
And that’s how our campaign was born…
Giving Tuesday falls under the purview of the Fundraising and Social Media team. As the date came closer, we met via Zoom in an assembled group to do some planning. A few days earlier, we received a message from Alex, the coordinator of Taste of Malawi in Malawi, with the request to start a fundraising campaign, because 10 new sewing machines are needed. This set the theme for this year’s Giving-Tuesday.
Now the tasks had to be distributed. We, as Taste of Malawi e.V., want to give every volunteer in the teams the opportunity to get involved according to their strengths. Paula is an enthusiastic fashion designer and responsible for the creative aspect of the campaign. Nadja is Head of Social Media and responsible for the content on Instagram and Facebook and enables Taste of Malawi e.V. to be represented on social media in a contemporary way. Johanna and Julian are responsible for the support of our Betterplace donation platform and have created a donation option for the 10 needed sewing machines for the Giving-Tuesday campaign.
We were supported with videos by our OnSite-team in Malawi. In these videos some of the women shared their sewing experiences, which should give an individual insight into the project.
We experience every time how beautiful and helpful it is when we come together as teams and complement each other. Working together, ideas become reality.
Your Taste of Malawi e.V.
